Je pravdou, že viaceré zdroje potvrdzujú, že Gréci pri vstupe do eurozóny neuvádzali skutočné štatistiky.
Bloomberg 27. máj 2011:
"...former European Central Bank Chief Economist Otmar Issing said. “When I worked for the ECB, I suffered every time countries didn’t meet the criteria,” Issing, 75, said in an interview in Copenhagen yesterday. “Greece cheated to get in, and it’s difficult to know how we should deal with cheaters.” ...Greece went unpunished except for being told by the EU to tighten up its bookkeeping. At the same time, proposals to strengthen Eurostat, the bloc’s statistics watchdog, foundered on national opposition."
"Greece has admitted it joined the euro in 2001 on the basis of figures that showed its budget deficit to be much lower than it really was. Eurozone states are expected to have deficits below 3% of gross domestic product but revised data show Greece has exceeded that limit since 1999."
