Medzi národnými odporúčaniami z Európskej únie je spomenutá aj rómska problematika.  EÚ nám odporúča zaoberať sa s rómskou problematikou z hľadiska zdravia, vzdelania a sociálnej inklúzie. V prieskume EÚ sa uvádza, najvyšší podiel Rómov na celkovej populácii na Slovensku, nerovnosť príležitostí, segregáciu a nevyhnutnosť odbornej pomoci v komunitách. Analýza však neoznačuje situáciu na Slovensku ako najhoršiu situáciu spomedzi ostatných krajín ako tvrdí R. Kaliňák. 

Odporúčania pre Slovensko (.pdf):

"6. Take active measures to improve access to and quality of schooling and pre-school education of vulnerable groups, including Roma. Ensure labour market reintegration of adults through activation measures and targeted employment services, second-chance education and short-cycle vocational training." (s.13)

"(15) Marginalised communities, including the Roma, are largely excluded from the labour market and the mainstream education system, representing a significant underutilised labour potential in the Slovak economy. In order to tackle this problem, Slovakia should step up efforts to improve educational outcomes of marginalised groups and reinforce its reintegration policies for adults." (s.8)

Podľa štúdie Health and the Roma community, analysis of the situation in Europe z roku 2009, pozorujúcej krajiny, v ktorých sa rómske komunity vyskytujú, situácia na Slovensku nie je označená ako najhoršia spomedzi ostatných krajín. Štúdia upozorňuje na najvyšší podiel Rómov na celkovej populácii na Slovensku, nerovnosť príležitostí, segregáciu a nevyhnutnosť  odbornej pomoci v komunitách. Analýza taktiež uvádza nízku nezamestnanosť, spôsobenú slabým vzdelaním. Na druhej strane ale napríklad Česká republika má podstatne vyššiu nezamestnanosť Rómov ako Slovensko.

"...People from these areas need greater support and assistance in order to improve their health." (s. 161)

...We would draw attention to the unemployment rate in the Czech Republic (41%), Slovakia and Greece (approximately 33%)... (s. 69)
